The Gellibrand river drops down from the Otways and meet stye Ocean at Princetown, looping lazily through a wetland expanse and valley that offers great fishing and camping opportunities. The tiny hamlet of Princetown itself sits above the river and wetlands and is a accessed from the Great Ocean walk by an attractive boardwalk ( pictured) which comes out just near the Princetown cafe – always a welcome spot for lunch or a coffee with great views over the estuary.
The river can be followed out to the beach and intersects with the Great Ocean Walk as it drops down from a sandy escarpment. It’s a favourite spot for fishermen and the area offers affordable and easy camping options at the Princetown Recreation reserve during Holidays.
