What makes the Great Ocean Walk unique is that it is one of the few walk-on, walk-off tracks available in
Victoria which means you have access to accommodation en route.

Camping & Permits

If you are planning to walk and camp using the available camp sites along the track you can read more information about camping and the required permits by viewing our FAQ’s.

Places to Stay

If you are planning to walk and base yourself in accommodation along the way then we have listed a few options below. A week’s walk is best done by basing yourself at a few spots as you head westward such as such as Apollo Bay, Cape Otway, Johanna, Princetown, and Port Campbell.

Most tour operators use just one base for reasons of economy, the exceptions to this are RAW Travel

This is by no means an exhaustive list of accommodation – there are many more places to stay in Apollo Bay and Port Campbell especially – and you should consult an accommodation website such as or the Apollo Bay Visitor Centre. Bimbi Park

Bimbi Park

The long established family favourite of Bimbi Park, whose motto, ‘camping under Koalas’ gives a hint of the natural attractions that await. Bimbi caters to all levels from camping and walkers huts, through to comfortable en-suite and deluxe eco-cabins. The owners Frank and Katrina are excellent hosts and go out of their way to ensure that guests have an enjoyable stay. In the local Aboriginal language, ‘bimbi’ means ‘a place of many birds’ and the park’s bushland is alive with bird song. You’ll hear Kookaburras, Rosellas, Magpies, Blue Wrens, Robins and the carolling Shrike-Thrush. And of an evening there’s more than a good chance that you’ll hear the local koalas after they wake from their day’s napping. In the summer you can also organise trail rides from Bimbi Park that will take you on horseback through the bush and adjacent beaches.
